A Vian man was recently charged with harboring a fugitive from justice, according to the report filed with the charges.
Dustin Nelson, 35, of Vian was nabbed for allegedly harboring Shawn Smith, who police say was seeking to avoid arrest for a motion to revoke warrant.
On June 25, police went to serve the warrant on Smith, but when Smith was informed of the warrant, he denied having one and slammed and locked the home’s door, the report indicates.
When backup police officers arrived, they continued to urge Smith to open the door. When he again refused, another man, Nelson, came to the window and started videotaping the scene, according to the report.
After several minutes of trying to remove the men from the location, they finally emerged and were taken into custody without incident. Nelson was charged with harboring a fugitive for allowing Smith to be in the residence.
Nelson was released on a $3,000 bond on June 28, records reveal.
The crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years and a $10,000 fine.
