Sallisaw Church of Christ is hosting its first community giveaway Saturday, Aug. 3. The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the church’s Family Center, 1104 E Choctaw Ave.
Free clothes, household items, toys and more will be available. For more information, call (918) 315-1129.
The event, billed as being “just like a garage sale but everything is free,” was largely planned by the women of the church, said Wyane Atkinson, the church’s new preaching minister.
Atkinson said he arrived in Sallisaw about three weeks ago after spending 20 years in Arizona. He also preached at churches of Christ in the Texas towns of Crawford and El Campo. He and his wife, whom he met when she was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in January.
The preacher said his goal is to spread the word of God while seeking out volunteering opportunities around the area and helping out wherever he is needed.
“I want to get to know Sallisaw, the people and the area,” Atkinson said, adding that the community giveaway is a perfect time for people in need to come out and participate.
