Hey girls! #YouCanSitWithUs at a conference for girls ages 11 to 17!
The conference will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at 204 S JT Stites Blvd., Suite A, in Sallisaw.
Organizer Kristina Jones said volunteers are still needed for the Sallisaw event, including guest speakers and civic leaders.
Jones, who has organized similar events in the Fort Smith area, said she is “honored and humbled to be a part of this event,” and she is thrilled to be bringing it to Sallisaw.
“We were able to tailor the message to fit the needs of the community,” Jones said. “It’s just a small idea that has blown up.”
Topics of discussion at the conference include “Being a Teenage Girl in Today’s Times,” self-image and confidence, sexual abuse and bullying and “Girl Code.” The event will also tackle internet safety and mental health awareness issues as well.
In addition, Jones said, when the guest speakers are finished, girls will be busy decorating rocks for a “You Rock” project. The decorated stones will then be placed in various locations around the city.
Girls who attend will receive a free T-shirt, and concessions will be available.
Volunteers and sponsors are still needed, as well as guest speakers, civic leaders and concession workers, Jones said.
