This year marks the return of the Miss Rodeo Sallisaw pageant to the city’s annual rodeo after a more than 10-year absence.
The 76th annual Sallisaw Lions Club IPRA rodeo will be Aug. 1-3, 2018, at the Sallisaw Rodeo Arena.
The pageant will include four age divisions, Miss (ages 18-24), Junior Miss (ages 13-17), Little Miss (ages 9-12) and Sweetheart (ages 8 and under). Entry fees are $100 for Miss, $75 for Junior Miss, $50 for Little Miss and $25 for Sweetheart.
The pageant entry deadline is Monday, July 15, so sign up soon by contacting Lynn Spain on Facebook or leave a message on the “Miss Rodeo Sallisaw” Facebook page.
Pageant organizers have scheduled a clinic for the contestants beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Stites Center, 1601 Opdyke, in Sallisaw. Contestants will receive tips on the application process, interviews, wardrobe and more.
The tentative pageant schedule is as follows:
Thursday, Aug. 1 -- 5:30 p.m. -- Parade and Rodeo (pageant contestants aren’t required to participate in the parade, but are welcome to join in)
Friday, Aug. 2 -- Contestant check-in/Orientation by 11 a.m., followed by the following:
*Dinner with judges
*Rodeo Grand Entrance
Saturday, Aug. 3 -- 8 a.m. -- Horsemanship (Contestants should wear white shirt, dark blue jeans, a Western hat -- black or white only -- and Western boots)
*Speeches (Topic of choice) and impromptu questions
*Style Show (Contestants should dress in trendy Western party attire)
*Rodeo and coronation of Miss Rodeo Sallisaw 2019
Horsemanship participants should wear a white shirt, dark blue denim jeans, a Western hat (black or white only) and Western boots. For the style show, contestants should wear trendy Western party attire.
Split reins are required in the Miss and Junior Miss divisions. Tie-downs and spurs are optional.
The horsemanship events are free and open to the public, but the style show will cost $10.
