Catholic Charities, a local service group, is working to reach out to those affected by the May 2019 flooding.
Mary Lynn Lufkin said the agency has established a disaster telephone line for those needing assistance. That number is (918) 935-2650. Callers will be asked to leave a voicemail with their contact information so Catholic Charities can call them back. Each caller will be contacted, Lufkin said.
Catholic Charities is applying for a grant with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster case management program to assist area flood victims.
Lufkin said a deployment team from Catholic Charities USA is helping with training and getting volunteers to man the phone lines.
The group plans to form a long-term recovery committee that will be a joint effort between Fort Smith and Sequoyah County.
