Vian Man Fails to Register as Sex Offender

Rondal Ray Scrogum

A Vian man pleaded not guilty July 8 to a charge that he failed to register as a sex offender, court records reveal.

Rondal Ray Scrogum, 30, faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000 or both on the felony charge.

On July 1, a Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy was on patrol when he learned that Scrogum had placed a request with the Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to move to Sequoyah County as a registered level-three sex offender.

The deputy went to the Vian residence Scrogum had listed where he made contact with the man. Scrogum said his parole officer in Ada had received the address transfer request on June 29. He said he was told he could pack his things but would not be able to move to the new Sequoyah County address until his request was approved.

A conversation with an Ada Police Department officer revealed that there had been several issues regarding his failure to register properly in that jurisdiction.

Scrogum was transported to the Sequoyah County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 19.
