CN Delays Opening of Cultural Tourism Sites

The Cherokee Nation is postponing the planned reopening of its cultural tourism sites, originally slated to begin in mid-July.

In coordination with the tribe’s phased reopening plans and the recently announced delay of phase three, all tribal museums, welcome centers, retail operations and the Cherokee Heritage Center will begin to reopen in August.

“We remain committed to the health and welfare of our employees, guests and the communities we serve,” Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. said. “These are unprecedented times and we must continue to strategically adapt our plans as conditions warrant. We look forward to safely reopening these sites in the near future.”

Once reopened, each site will implement safety procedures, including physical distancing, limited occupancy, enhanced cleaning and sanitization and required use of face masks by all. Hours of operation will vary by location and can be found by visiting www.VisitCherokeeNation.com
Cherokee Nation Gift Shops will resume online operations as planned, beginning Monday, July 13.

Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism is managed by Cherokee Nation Businesses and was created in 2007 to preserve and promote the history and culture of the Cherokee people. Efforts by the Cherokee Nation include award-winning cultural, specialty and event tours and operation of six Cherokee Nation museums, two Cherokee Nation welcome centers and various Cherokee Nation retail operations.

The Cherokee Heritage Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the premier cultural center for Cherokee history, culture and the arts. Located in the heart of the Cherokee Nation in Park Hill, it was established in 1963 by the Cherokee National Historical Society to preserve, promote and teach Cherokee history and culture.
