Arrest Warrant Issued for Burglary Suspect

Bryan Dale Payne caught on camera during the burglary.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Bryan Dale Payne, of Fort Smith, for burglary and grand larceny related to the May 7 burglary of Sallisaw Car Audio and More.

On May 8 the Sallisaw Police Department responded to the scene of the burglary. An unidentified white male had been caught on security cameras breaking into the store just before midnight on May 7.

The suspect arrived in a pickup with Arkansas license plates which was found abandoned and recovered by the Fort Smith Police Department the next morning.

Bobby Philpot, the shop owner, stated that the thief got away with $5,000-$7,000 worth of stereo equipment, including speakers, amplifiers and more.

Philpot said the thief apparently used bleach in the store to try and get rid of any evidence, but he probably didn’t see the cameras and did not realize that glass-break sensors at the store would trigger the automatic video system.

Philpot also said that the suspect had received a large cut on his arm during the break-in.

Sallisaw Chief of Police Terry Franklin said on Thursday that DNA evidence collected at the scene was sent to the O.S.B.I for analysis. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for Payne on July 9.

Sallisaw Police Officers have been able to recover some of the stolen items from Payne's residence in Fort Smith.
