Parrot Island to Honor Military on Saturday


Parrot Island Waterpark in Fort Smith is hosting its 5th annual Military Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The all-day celebration recognizes and honors all members of the Armed Forces, whether they are active-duty, veterans or retired. All military personnel will have free park admission and they will receive a complimentary concessions voucher, along with 50 percent off admission for their immediate family members. There will also be special discounts on concessions and retail sales throughout the day.

The event will open with an honors ceremony, followed by the Military Patriot Games, where teams of military personnel and their families can compete. The day will wrap up with an awards ceremony giving the teams prizes and medals and presenting the winning team the Champion’s Parrot Cup trophy.

The event is open to the public. Regular admission fees apply.

Parrot Island is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding social distancing and the operation of aquatic areas. There are a number of new procedures that must be followed to enjoy our facilities this year. Parrot Island Waterpark features the region’s only FlowRider surf machine and wave pool, four awesome twisting-turning water slides, a relaxing lazy river, an activity pool and a themed children’s aquatic play area. The outdoor waterpark has more than 370,000 gallons of aquatic fun and has a variety of amenities, including party pavilions, cabana rentals, food and beverage concessions, 800 complimentary deck and lounge chairs, more than 250 complimentary water tubes, expansive grass lawns for relaxing and much more. Parrot Island is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Parrot Island is at Fort Smith’s Ben Geren Park on Zero Street. Miniature golf, playground equipment, outdoor picnic areas and pavilions, softball and soccer fields, tennis courts, a one-and-a-half-mile fitness and circuit walking trail, two 18-hold disc golf courses, more than eight miles of paved bike trails, 11 miles of mountain bike trails and an outstanding 27-hole county golf course are also available there.
