Brushy, Vian, Gans, Marble City and Central Making Plans for 2020-21 School Year

Students heading back to school have several options when it comes to their learning environments for the 2020-21 school year. Brushy, Vian, Gans, Marble City and Central have released their plans for the upcoming school year and several changes are in place.

At Brushy Public School, officials will offer traditional and blended learning methods. The school has adopted the Edmentum Curriculum, which is Oklahoma Standard-based. This curriculum will be taught in the classroom as well as virtually.

Students who have little or no Internet access may use the school’s WIFI in the parking lot and/or thumb drives provided by the district to receive their instruction.

If you want your child to start the school year on a blended path, please contact the school’s office.

Brushy has also implemented the following guidelines:

*Notification to parents about information related to COVID-19 may come via school website, Facebook, notes sent home, phone calls and emails. When the school is notified of a case involving a student or faculty member, the school will contact parents or guardians using one of the above methods. Parents will be allowed to transition their child to blended learning at this time if they choose. If multiple COVID-19 cases populate the district, the school administration may opt to close traditional classes for a period of time. If that happens, all students will receive virtual instruction.

*Temperatures will be taken from every student and faculty member twice a day. If an individual has a fever, they will be required to be fever-free for a 24-hour period before returning to school. Brushy School expects each parent/guardian to check their child’s temperature and ensure he/she does not exhibit symptoms before being sent to school.

*Masks are strongly encouraged for all students. Brushy School will allow parents to make the choice on whether their child wears a mask. Please understand that your child may not be able to keep the six-foot distance the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends. If a student has a pre-existing condition that may be compromised by wearing a mask, please provide a doctor’s note to the office.

*Classroom procedures will be modified to allow for social distancing. Students will use Chromebooks hourly to access the curriculum. Teachers will teach and live-stream lessons for virtual students. Lessons will also be recorded for future use and for installing on thumb drives. Students will self-contain in a classroom as much as possible with teachers rotating to different rooms. Bell schedules will be adjusted to lower the student population in the halls and breaks will be given at different times to minimize student-to-student contact.

*Paper packets may be distributed to the lower-grade students because their curriculum involves much more hands-on learning.

*Cafeteria usage will be done with proper spacing. Box lunches will be provided when applicable to allow for social distancing. Students may be required to eat in classrooms or outside.

*Attendance will be taken by daily lessons completed for ALL students.

*Busing of students will be done on the regular schedule. Masks are required on all bus trips until further notice. Buses will be sanitized after each use.

*Extracurricular activities come with additional risks. Parents or guardians should understand that allowing their child to participate in them leads to a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. By allowing a child to participate in extracurricular activities, the parent/guardian is acknowledging and accepting that risk. Students enrolled in blended learning will still be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities provided they come to at least one class period per day and maintain academic eligibility while adhering to attendance policies.

*The visitor policy during this time has also been modified to help ensure the safety of students and faculty. After the first day of school for students, the Brushy campus will be closed to parents/guardians during school hours. Parents are encouraged to attend the open house to meet the staff and view the classrooms.

Vian Public Schools will continually monitor student and staff health as well as community transmission rates of coronavirus throughout the school year. Decisions requiring a change in the education schedule will be based on current health data and made with the advice of local health professionals.

The school system is introducing its Purple and Gold Rotation schedule for students and will have the following guidelines:

*Student schedules will rotate so social distancing measures can be implemented in classrooms and on school buses. The student body will be split in half, Team Purple and Team Gold. Team Purple will attend school on campus, while Team Gold will participate in class online. The groups will rotate each week.

*Students attending school on campus will attend classes Mondays-Thursdays and participate in online learning via Google Classroom on Fridays.

*During alternating weeks, students must log in to Google Classroom to communicate with their teachers and submit assignments in order to be considered in attendance. Grades will be taken and students may pass or fail a course or a grade depending on their participation and performance.

*On Fridays, teachers will be available for tutoring sessions during regular school hours.

*Students can maintain activity eligibility if their attendance and grade requirements are met.

*Students will have access to school resources in order to participate in Google Classroom at home.

*Full meal service will be provided for on-site students. Families may pick up meals when students are learning through Google Classroom.

*Staff will increase cleaning of school buildings and buses.

*Students and staff will receive increased hand-washing procedures and have access to sanitizers.

*Masks may be encouraged and/or required.

If COVID-19 infections increase and it becomes unsafe or impossible to conduct school in person, students will complete their assignments through an online platform. If that occurs:

*Students will have access to school resources in order to participate in distance learning.

*Grades will be taken and students may pass or fail a class or grade depending on their participation and performance.

*Meal services are offered, but food must be picked up by family members.

*Students can maintain their activity eligibility if their attendance and grade requirements are met.

Vian is leaving open the option of traditional classroom learning, which will resume if COVID-19 infections decrease and it is safe to fully return to school.

*The traditional school calendar will be observed.

*Staff will increase cleaning of school building and buses.

*Students and staff will observe increased hand-washing procedures and have access to sanitizers.

*Visitor access to school buildings will be limited.

*Students and staff must stay home if they are showing symptoms of illness.

*Students can maintain their activity eligibility if their attendance and grade requirements are met.

*Full meal service will be provided as usual.

Marble City Public Schools will start classes on Thursday, Aug. 13 with several health safety measures in place

MCPS officials will continually monitor student and staff health and its community transmission rates of the coronavirus throughout the school year. Decisions regarding a change in education plans will be based on CDC recommendations, current health data and upon the advice of local health officials.

The school system is offering two learning methods, traditional and distance learning for this school year.

If a student chooses the traditional learning method, the following guidelines will apply:

*Traditional, in-person learning will resume as scheduled.

*The traditional school calendar will be observed.

*Students and staff will observe increased hand-washing procedures and have access to sanitizers.

*Masks will be required on school buses for all students. Masks or face shields are required for all faculty and staff members. Masks are encouraged but not required for students in PreK-4th grade. Masks are required for students in 5th-8th grades.

*Visitor access to school building will be limited.

*Students and staff must stay home if they are showing signs of illness.

The following guidelines apply to students who opt for distance learning:

*Students complete their assignments via distance learning.

*Students have access to Chromebooks and flash drives in order to participate in distance learning.

*Students in PreK-3rd grade will have access to preprogrammed tablets.

*Students with little or no Internet access may use the school’s WIFI in the parking lot and/or flash drives that have been provided by the school district.

*Distance-learning instruction may not contain all of the instructional strategies used in the traditional classroom.

*Students participating in the distance-learning program will be considered in attendance if students are completing coursework as scheduled by the teacher and are communicating with teachers on a regular basis.

*Meal service will be provided and dictated by the district’s child nutrition capabilities.

Central Public Schools are offering the same options as Marble City schools, traditional learning vs. distance learning.

In the traditional setting, the following guidelines apply:

*Traditional in-person learning will resume as scheduled.

*The traditional school calendar will be followed.

*Staff will increase cleaning of school building, buses and surfaces.

*Students and staff will observe increased hand-washing procedures and have access to sanitizers.

*Decision on mask for students and staff will be determined at a later date as more information becomes available.

*Visitor access to building will be limited.

*Students and staff must stay home if they are exhibiting symptoms of illness.

The distance-learning option will follow these guidelines:

*Students will receive instruction with their regular teachers through Google Classroom.

*Students will have access to school resources in order to participate in distance learning.

*Meal services will be offered for students, but food must be picked up by family members.

If the school is forced to close for COVID-19 reasons, classroom instruction will be provided through Google Classroom or with paper and pencil. The school has made the following tentative re-entry plan if the school is closed. If that happens, the school will go to an A-B schedule, where half of the students attend in-person classes on campus and half will be receiving distance learning via Google Classroom. Exact re-entry dates will be based on the COVID-19 situation at that time.

The school will continue to revise the opening framework if necessary because of the coronavirus situation. More information and instructions will be released at a later date.

Gans Public School is urging parents to complete a virtual coursework survey for the 2020-21 school year. The survey is available on the school’s Facebook page.
