Senior Day and Fish Fry Set for Sept. 27

The annual Don Butcher Senior Day is scheduled for Sept. 27, with events beginning at 10 a.m.

The yearly fish fry, which is attended by nearly 500 people, is for senior citizens in Sequoyah County and around the area.

Ronda Lasiter, director of the Sequoyah-Adair-Cherokee county nutrition program, said the event is a fun time for area residents to be served a delicious lunch served by various county officials and employees. The fish dinner will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Lasiter said donations and volunteers are still needed.

Formerly held at the Sallisaw City Park, the event is now at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds. Lasiter said entertainment will be provided and local vendors and businesses have donated door prizes.

“The whole community comes out to this event,” Lasiter said. This is about the 25th year the fish fry has been held.
