Sallisaw Motorcyclist Hurt in Crash

A Sallisaw man was injured at 6:09 p.m. Wednesday when his motorcycle hit a woman attempting to turn left.

Derek Beatty, 19, of Sallisaw was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson that hit a vehicle driven by Judy Stump, 66, also of Sallisaw, according to Sallisaw Police Department Public Information Officer Jeff Murray.

Murray said that Stump was driving a 2009 Lexus SUV and was westbound on Cherokee and was stopped at the traffic light at Dogwood Street. She tried to make a left turn onto Dogwood heading south.

An unidentified vehicle was in the eastbound lane, trying to turn north at the same intersection.

Beatty, who was eastbound, came up behind the unidentified vehicle. Switching lanes to avoid it, he collided with Stump, who was turning at the same time.

Beatty was thrown from the motorcycle and was taken to the hospital by emergency medical personnel. He was later life-flighted to another hospital.

Stump was not injured in the crash.

  1. I don't believe this was told straight. Y'all need to get all your facts straight and talk to witnesses to make sure the story is correct.
