A Muldrow man was arrested July 21 in Gore for being a sex offender living within 2,000 feet of a school.
Records show that Steven Lee Colley Jr., 45, was living in an apartment that is only 476 feet from a day care facility.
The manager of The Kitchenettes in Gore contacted police about a man he suspected of being a sex offender. According to the arrest report, when police knocked on the apartment door, Colley answered and told the officer that he was a sex offender but that he actually lived in Muldrow and was merely visiting his girlfriend at the apartment complex.
The apartment complex’s records showed that Colley is a co-tenant at the building. Colley was then arrested and taken to the Sequoyah County Jail.
A sheriff’s department investigator told the arresting officer that she had recently gone to do a compliance check at the address on file for Colley, but all she found was a burned-out trailer home.
Colley’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 27. He was released on $10,000 bond.
Colley’s charge carries a penalty of 1-3 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $3,000.
Records show that Colley faced the same charge in January 2017.
