The semi-tractor trailer driver who drove down Creek Street in Sallisaw Wednesday, pulling down four electric poles and disrupting electric power to five homes, was ticketed for the wrong turn, and his insurance company is responsible for the repairs.
Blakely Smith, Sallisaw Electric Department superintendent, said the driver told police he was not able to make the turn at Wheeler and Creek and continued on Creek when the trailer caught the overhead cables. The driver continued on and pulled down four poles and pulled the meter loop off five homes.
Smith said power was returned to four homes by 11 p.m. Wednesday and the last home was reconnected by 11 a.m. Thursday.
“We had Stilwell come down and help us set the poles,” Smith said, because he has one truck that is not operational.
The truck pulled the lines down at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Smith said.
“It was very time consuming,” he said about the repair.
Smith said he keeps poles and other equipment on hand for such circumstances, and he will be ordering poles and equipment this month in preparation for icy winter weather.
