A tractor trailer vehicle was attempting to pass under low hanging power lines causing the lines to catch on the trailer and create a dangerous situation. The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Creek Street in Sallisaw, just northwest of the old Tommie Spear Middle School.
Sallisaw Police and Sallisaw Electric Dept. responded and are working to clear the site. It appears that the driver traveled almost 100 feet with the lines caught on the trailer. Several lines were torn down and 5 poles are believed to be snapped or damaged.
Sallisaw Electric Dept. Superintendent Blakely Smith stated that he and his crew are working hard to have power restored as soon as possible to the areas around Creek affected by the outage this accident caused.
Drivers are urged to avoid this area until it has been safely cleared. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
