CASA for Children will host a Coffee with CASA informational session next week for prospective volunteers to learn more about the program and the volunteer role.
Scheduled for Monday, September 16th, the information session is expected to give those in attendance a better view of the work being performed by CASA volunteers ahead of their upcoming fall training session.
Because court proceedings are closed and case files are typically sealed, prospective advocates are often unfamiliar with what it means to be a CASA volunteer and the role of a volunteer once they have completed training.
“There is often an air of mystery surrounding CASA,” said Jenny Crosby, Training & Outreach Specialist. “We want to make sure that people have a really good understanding of what they’re going to be doing when they join our team.”
The session is expected to include an overview of the CASA program, the training process, and the roles and responsibilities of a CASA volunteer.
“You don’t have to be a social worker, doctor, teacher, or lawyer to make a difference in a child’s life,” said Crosby. “You simply have to be 21 or older with a heart for children.”
Those interested in learning more are encouraged to attend the free information session on Monday, September 16th, from 10-11 a.m. at Oasis Coffee House in Sallisaw.
For more information or to RSVP call (918) 686-8199 or email Jenny Crosby at jenny@casaok.org.
