State Rep. Jim Olsen
Affiliations, associations, and memberships matter.
Allow me to illustrate.
I am a member of a church in the Sallisaw area. Now, there are rare occasions I may have a different perspective on something than my pastor. However, most of the time, I can say I my beliefs mirror his. My beliefs and my lifestyle also line up most of the time with the people of my church. Overall, where I go to church is a very good reflection of who I am and what I believe.
I am also a member of a political party. I certainly don’t agree with every single opinion shared by members of this party, but overall, this political party is a pretty good reflection of who I am and what I believe.
Our affiliations, associations and memberships give others a pretty good idea of who we are and what we believe.
This matters because there is a notable exception to this general rule right here in Sequoyah County. This concerns some of our teachers. I have met many of these people, and I certainly appreciate their labor with our children. So many wonderful Christian people are teachers in our area.
Some of these teachers join different groups related to their profession. Of course, this, in itself, is fine. One group commonly joined is the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA).
I suspect many of our good teachers may not realize the OEA recently came out publicly in support of abortion and LBGTQ rights. Regarding abortion, the group stated it supports the “fundamental right to abortion.” Regarding the LBGTQ movement, the group supports the equality act. Equality may sound good, but it means that biological males would be able to use the girls’ restroom or locker rooms. I could give other examples, but I think you understand the worldview of the OEA.
Are you a member of the OEA?
If you’re a teacher and have a far left political and theological worldview, the OEA is most likely a good reflection of who you are and what you believe. You are probably in the right organization for you.
If you do not believe in this pro-abortion and LBGTQ agenda, then perhaps you may want to reconsider the company you keep. Consider the words of Ephesians 5:11—“Have nothing to do with the fruitless
deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”
Rep. Jim Olsen represents District 2 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, which includes portions of Seqouyah County.
