Firefighters’ Appreciation Dinner Monday

Volunteer firefighters from around Sequoyah County will be honored Monday, Sept. 23, when county elected officials and the Cherokee Nation team up to host the 3rd annual Firefighters’ Appreciation Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Sallisaw Fairgrounds.

Sequoyah County 3rd District Commissioner Jim Rogers, one of the organizers of the annual event, said the dinner is meant to “show our appreciation to all the firefighters in our county.” They’re volunteers, Rogers noted, so they don’t receive a salary.

Rogers said there will be door prizes and a raffle for a commemorative Henry .22-caliber lever-action rifle.

“We invite all volunteer firemen and their families to attend,” Rogers said.
