Keota Woman Killed in Saturday Accident

A Keota woman died in a Sept. 21 car crash near Sallisaw on Sept. 21.

Records show that Barbara Zachare, 76, died after sustaining internal trunk and head injuries in the crash.

The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 59 south, one-tenth of a mile north of CR1130 and about four miles south of Sallisaw.

The accident happened when a Chevrolet truck driven by Tamara Hardin, 32, of Cameron and Zachare’s Chevy Cobalt were heading northbound on U.S. 59. Zachare’s vehicle slowed down to make a right turn into a private driveway and the car was struck by Hardin’s pickup.

Hardin and her passenger, as well as a passenger in Zachare’s car, were not injured in the crash.

Zachare was transported by Pafford EMS to a Sallisaw hospital, where she later died.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper investigating the crash cited inattentive driving as the cause of the accident. The roads were clear at the time and everyone involved was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
