The town of Gore has scheduled its 5th annual recognition walk for multiple sclerosis (MS) for Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Gore Events Center at the high school.
Events will include a silent auction and a live auction beginning at 10 a.m. that day. There will also be a drawing for a John Deere bicycle and more.
“Anyone is welcome, whether they have MS, know someone with it, even if they just want to come,” said Shelly Sheffield, one of the event organizers. “Just come and walk,” she added.
The event has been the No. 1 individual fundraiser in Oklahoma for two years, Sheffield said. “We have also been listed as one of the top 200 (fundraisers) in the entire United States,” she added.
At last year’s event, Sheffield says the walk raised $13,700 for MS, while netting about $12,000 the year before. Sheffield said about 350 people participate in the walk each year.
Sheffield noted that 100 percent of the proceeds from the walk will go toward MS research.
“This is a great time to gather with your friends,” Sheffield said, “for a really good cause.”
Donations are welcome and may be made by calling Sheffield at (918) 261-6444.
