‘Fields of Faith’ Set in Sallisaw

Members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in Sallisaw and Sequoyah County will meet Oct. 9 at the 16th annual “Fields of Faith” event.

Sallisaw is hosting Fields of Faith, a rapidly growing interdenominational outreach event, for the first time ever. The event will also be held at more than 500 locations across the nation.

Fields of Faith is a student-to-student ministry in which peers invite their own classmates and teammates to meet on their school’s athletic field to hear fellow students share their testimonies, challenge them to read the Bible and come to faith in Jesus Christ.

“Young people face challenges in greater frequency and depth than those faced by previous generations,” said Kenyatta Wright, Lake Country Area FCA director. “Fields of Faith challenges communities to unite together in faith and hope in Christ,” he noted.

Organizer Robbi Martin said the event in Sallisaw is for all local youth and local church youth groups around the area, and there is still a need for youth leaders from area churches to volunteer to help with the event.

Since the beginning of Fields of Faith in 2004, more than 1 million people have joined the movement. In 2018, more than 240,000 participants gathered at 521 fields, where 6,213 people made first-time faith commitments, 5,015 recommitted their lives to Christ, and 6,494 committed to reading the Bible.

Fields of Faith began with an idea by Jeff Martin, FCA’s executive director of ministry advancement, who sought to help today’s students face spiritual battles and temptations.
“It’s amazing that Fields of Faith has grown to welcome nearly a quarter of a million people to athletic fields where they can pray and worship together,” Martin said. “We are so thankful for the students who feel passionate about sharing their faith with their fellow students so they, too, can see how Christ can impact their lives. There’s no doubt that God is working through these young people and will continue to do so for years to come.”
