On Thursday the Gore Police Dept. recovered a device designed to steal credit card numbers from the inside of a gas pump at a Gore convenience store, the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office reported.
After contacting the FBI and Secret Service, it was discovered that this card reader had been hard wired into the existing card scanner on the pump. The perpetrators use these devices to download credit card information and hack into accounts.
It has been reported that these types of devices have been found more and more frequently around the country in recent months. Authorities warn credit card customers to be cautious and do regular checks of your accounts.
The sheriff’s office will be passing out flyers to area businesses, warning them of these devices. If you have been a victim of credit card theft/fraud, contact the U.S. Secret Service at 918-581-7272 or Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office 918-775-1213.
