Sallisaw Woman Faces Drug Charges

A Sallisaw woman found in possession of methamphetamine was charged Jan. 29 with two drug counts, records show.

Brenda Andrews, 65, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, a felony, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

On Jan. 23, the report indicates, officers went to a Sallisaw apartment complex to conduct a “knock-and-talk” investigation into alleged illegal drug activity at one of the apartments.

At the apartment, Andrews allowed the officers in and agreed to answer questions. When asked about the amount of traffic at her apartment, Andrews said she didn’t have as much traffic since “Jerome” moved out.

Andrews allowed police to search the residence after admitting that she does smoke meth “because it helps her” with the pain in her hands. She also admitted to having “a pipe and about half a gram” in the apartment. She reached over beside her recliner and opened a box that contained a plastic bag with an off-white substance that later field-tested positive for meth, as well as a glass smoking device.

Andrews then walked an officer to a table behind her recliner and showed him an open safe that contained several plastic bags, all containing residue, empty bags and a set of digital scales, also with the whitish substance on them.

The unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance charge carries a penalty of imprisonment in the Department of Corrections for up to five years and a fine of up to $20,000. The misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a fine of up to $1,000.

Andrews was released on $6,000 bond.
