Women’s Health to Be Featured Feb. 14

A Women’s Heart Health program, featuring free information and some health screenings, will be held Feb. 14 at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds in Sallisaw. The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m.

Sponsored by the NOW Coalition and various health organizations, Women’s Heart Health will also feature a free one-month subscription donated by the Sallisaw Family Fitness Center to be given away to one lucky winner as a door prize.

The event also features a speaker, Cheryl Pitchford from the Peters Agency, who will speak on the agency’s new Cardio Program. Also available will be healthy snacks and recipes, information on women’s health, and individual health consultations on areas of concern by the Sallisaw Health and Wellness Center.

Louise Micolites of the Oklahoma State Department of Health, said, “The number one cause of death in Sequoyah County is cardiovascular disease. Women often busy themselves with caring for their families, working, and balancing all the activities of everyone in their household, and may need to be aware of better ways to take care of themselves, what resources are available, how to prevent heart disease, and generally how to live in a healthy way.”
