Murder Suspect Has Sallisaw Connections


An Iola, Kan., man has been charged with murder in the death of his mother on Jan. 17.

Brandon Walter Callahan, 34, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of his mother, Lucretia Lea Callahan. He is also the son of Kendall Callahan. The family is originally from Sallisaw.

Allen County (Kan.) Attorney Jerry B. Hathaway filed charges Wednesday against Brandon Walter Callahan, including criminal use of a financial card and theft. He is in custody and his bond has been set at $1 million.

The body of Lucretia Lea Callahan was discovered at her home in Iola at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The charges were filed by Allen County (Kansas) Attorney Jerry B. Hathaway. He issued a press release announcing the charges, but did not include a cause of death or possible motive. Hathaway was not answering his phone on Thursday afternoon.

It was reported the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was assisting with the investigation.
