Indian Capital Technology Center (ICTC) in Sallisaw held a groundbreaking Friday morning for a new 60-by-80-foot activity center that will be built at the east end of the campus. The expansion is expected to allow for expanded programs at the school.
Curtis G. Shumaker, ICTC campus director, said the activity center will be used for district-wide events such as the annual Technology Challenge and the “You Build It” contest that brings students in from all six partner schools and several dependent schools districts.
Shumaker said the center “will be large enough to assemble all ICTC students at one time in one location, which cannot be done at this time.”
Shumaker said construction will most likely not begin until the end of the spring semester and will be completed sometime in the summer. No contract has been let yet for construction. It is estimated the building will cost about $400,000.
The activity center will allow for the repurposing of an existing Seminar Center into classroom space, which will open up other space for new programs in the future. Shumaker said those new programs will most likely be for adult student health care programs such as practical nursing, respiratory therapy, etc.
