Sallisaw Firemen Wade in to Save Women

Sallisaw Fire Department Fire and Rescue had to wade into a drainage ditch filled with water Saturday morning to rescue two women from Tennessee.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Padgett said one 55-year-old woman, a passenger, was transported to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw where she was treated and released.

Padgett said the women were driving a small SUV west on Interstate 40 when the vehicle hydroplaned and ran off the road into the drainage ditch. The crash occurred at about 7:20 a.m. Saturday near the 301 Mile Marker.
