Senior Meals Delayed at Catholic Charities; Volunteers Needed

Senior citizens used to getting their meals at Catholic Charities in Sallisaw will have a bit of a delay in getting their food, the agency’s Pam Wemhaner said Thursday.

There was an issue at the main food bank Thursday morning, Wemhaner said, and Senior Boxes did not get loaded on the truck. So even though Senior Boxes won’t be available again until Thursday, Jan. 14, senior citizens are still eligible to get “regular food” when the agency is open during its regular hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again next week.

The agency apologizes for any inconvenience this delay may have caused.

Wemhaner also noted that her agency is looking for volunteers to staff Catholic Charities’ Helping Center. “We are operating on a skeleton crew right now and a lot of our people have said they aren’t coming back,” Wemhaner said, citing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Applicants must meet certain criteria and pass a background check.

For more information. call Wemhaner during business hours. If you’re interested in volunteering, go to the Catholic Charities office in Sallisaw, 409 N. Adams, and ask for Pam.
