Officials at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sequoyah County recently sought out a solution to enhance the safety of their outdoor Fun & Fitness time at the main unit in Sallisaw.
Thanks to a grant from HCSC Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Bell Builders, they now have an 8-foot chain-link fence around the Fun & Fitness play area in Sallisaw. The fence, which surrounds the parking lot, will keep balls out of the street, cars away from kids and allow members and staff to enjoy their physical fitness time.
Laura Kuykendall, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sequoyah County, said Tuesday that with the busy traffic on surrounding streets the outdoor play time at the Sallisaw club was always fraught with danger from speeding cars.
Kuykendall said the fence has gates that can be closed when the children are out playing to ensure their safety. “The staff can now play with the kids instead of having to constantly be on the lookout for traffic and it also gives parents peace of mind,” she said. And most important, Kuykendall said, “The kids love it!”
