County Commissioners Welcome Burlison

District 2 County Commissioner Beau Burlison

The Sequoyah County Board of Commissioners welcomed a new member at their weekly meeting Monday, with Beau Burlison being sworn in by Judge Kyle Waters. 

Board leadership also changed, with Commissioner Jim Rogers of District 3 becoming chairman and Commissioner Ray Watts of District 1 moving to the vice-chairman position. 

Burlison, a football coach at Vian Public Schools, replaces outgoing District 2 Commissioner Steve Carter after defeating him during the election. 

On the business front, the commissioners: 

*Approved a payment to Union Pacific Railroad as part of the Dwight Mission Road resurfacing project in District 2 

*Approved the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office’s purchase of a 2021 Ford Expedition from a state contract 

*Approved holidays for Fiscal Year 2021 

*Approved the transfer from the Sequoyah County Election Board’s salary account to its maintenance and operations fund
