Rutherford Discusses COVID at Commissioners’ Meeting


There have been a total of 3,411 COVID-19 infections in Sequoyah County, Steve Rutherford, the county’s Emergency Management director, said Monday.

Rutherford, speaking at the weekly County Commissioners’ meeting, added that there are currently 358 active cases in the county, with 24 cases added Sunday. The county also added one more COVID death Sunday, bringing the total to 24.

During the meeting, the commissioners approved a resolution to slate an election for the Fair Board’s Board of Directors for Feb. 13. The filing period is from Feb. 1-5 and candidates must reside in their commissioner’s district to run. Candidates must file at the Sequoyah County Election Board.

In other business, the commissioners:

*Approved the transfer of funds from the Emergency Management capital outlay account to the Emergency Management maintenance and operations account

*Approved the transfer of funds from the Emergency Management travel account to the Emergency Management personal service account

*Approved the transfer of funds from the OSU Extension’s maintenance and operations account to the Extension’s personal service account

*Approved the transfer of funds from the Extension’s part-time help account to its personal service account

*Approved the transfer of funds from the Extension’s travel account to its personal service account

*Approved the transfer of funds from the Extension’s capital outlay account to its personal service account

*Approved the transfer of funds from the county’s general fund to the court clerk’s maintenance and operation account

*Approved the Sequoyah County assessor’s 2021 Disaster Recovery Plan


*Approved an engagement letter from Sanders, Bledsoe and Hewett for an audit of the Sequoyah County Educational Facilities Authority.
