Hidden Heroes...Jamie Taylor

As the coronavirus continues to make global headlines, The Mix is taking a look closer to home and honoring the “Hidden Heroes” right here who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep life as close to normal as possible.

Our first “hero” is Jamie Taylor, a pharmacy technician at Northeastern Health System - Sequoyah, who is also the hospital’s emergency preparedness coordinator. She’s been doing that job for about seven months, hospital Administrator Stephanie Six said Thursday.

“I am super proud of Jamie,” Six said. Taylor has spent the past six months rewriting policies and getting the emergency preparedness department organized -- just in time, Six said, because “who knew a pandemic was coming?”

“I was approached seven months ago about the position, ” Taylor said Thursday. “I had never done anything like that before. I thought about it for about a day, then decided it sounded like fun.”

A pharmacy technician at NHS since 2010, Taylor said her daily role now includes lots of meetings, teleconferences, monitoring case numbers from the state and more.

Taylor has worked 45 days without a day off, Six said. She makes several daily reports to the state, according to Six, and she’s also been gathering supplies of personal protective equipment, ventilators and testing kits, along with her other duties at the hospital.

Taylor lives in Redland and is the mother of an 11-year-old girl. She says she enjoys her dual role. “It’s been an experience! When I first got into this position I didn’t expect a global pandemic seven months later! It affects your family, your friends, it affects everything,” Taylor said.

Taylor said she has a great team working with her that helps make her job easier, and she is learning how to delegate duties.

“Jamie may not be on the front lines, but she’s in the back making everything happen,” Six added. “She’s done a phenomenal job!”

If you know a Hidden Hero in our community that you would like to nominate, email us at kim@kxmx.com. Tell us a little about what makes them a “hero” and provide us with your contact information as well as theirs.

*Unfortunately we will not be able to feature everyone nominated.
