Former Students Invited to Join OSHSA

The president of the Old Sallisaw High School Association, Gary F. Jackson, has invited former students to visit the park and join the group.

In a letter of invitation Jackson said, “About five years ago, a number of folks in Sallisaw banded together to preserve what was left of the old Sallisaw High School. If you remember, some of our city politicos wanted to demolish what little was left of Sallisaw High. We stopped that action.”

“Many of you came out in the beginning to help with the monumental job of cleaning the property up. As time has rocked on, the group has dwindled to just a few dedicated souls who only want this small portion of Sallisaw history preserved. In so doing, a park has begun to blossom that all can enjoy. If you attended Sallisaw High School between 1940 and 1988, you all are a part of this project.”

“If you have not been invited to join the Old Sallisaw High Association, please consider this invitation."

The OSHSA meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the OSHSA Event Center, though Jackson noted that all planned activities and meetings have been suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Your participation, regardless of what it may be, will be greatly appreciated,” Jackson’s letter continues. “We would like to have an all class get-together later this year. Please let us know where you are and how you would like to be included.”
