Fort Smith Hospitals Update COVID-19 Situation

River Valley hospitals in Fort Smith continue to work together to test and care for area residents during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Mercy Fort Smith and Baptist Health both state that they are in constant communication to provide the best care possible for the River Valley.

According to Dr. Lee Johnson, spokesperson for both hospitals during the crisis, over 3,000 people have been screened through the area hotline in the past two weeks. 268 were determined to need testing and 11 tested positive.

There are currently two COVID-19 patients in Fort Smith hospitals, Dr. Lee stated. Neither of those patients are in ICU care or require ventilator support at this time.

Dr. Lee went on to add that there are currently plenty of medical supplies including ample testing kits. "Turn around time for testing has also improved and is averaging 48 hours," Lee said.
