Students in Culinary Program Graduate


A Culinary Training graduation was held Thursday for students enrolled in a Fast Track Culinary Training program, sponsored by Cherokee Nation Career Services/Cherokee Nation Business and Indian Capital Technology Center (ICTC) in Sallisaw.

A partnership between the two agencies was formed in March and since that time 97 Cherokee citizens have applied for training. Of those, 86 have completed the course, and of the 86, 30 culinary graduates have either received job placement or obtained positions. Another 24 are in the process of being hired or are completing their practicum in Cherokee Nation Casino Food and Beverage departments.

The guest speaker at Thursday's graduation was Bryan Warner, (above) Cherokee Nation Council member for District 6.

Other special guests were Eric Shoemaker, Cherokee Nation Business Food and Beverage director; Diane Kelley, Cherokee Nation Career Services executive director, Chef Don McCellan, director of Food and Beverage, Siloam Springs Casino; Chef Neil Barmat, executive chef, Food and Beverage, Roland Casino; Chef Georgiann Belton, ICTC, Muskogee; Delina Bible, ACD Coordinator, ICTC; Kathy Adair, ICTC BIS/ACD director; Curtis Shoemaker, ICTC Sallisaw Campus director; Misty Linthicum, ICTC Director of Sallisaw Campus Night Programs; and Daryl Legg, Cherokee Nation Career Services Director of Economic Development/ReEntry Programs and City of Sallisaw Ward 4 Commissioner.

The ICTC Muskogee Culinary Program served dinner. Awards for outstanding students were presented as well as appreciation to those outstanding instructors and partners who have made the culinary program a success. The graduation ceremony was held at the old Sallisaw Middle School cafeteria.
