The Sallisaw Schools Homecoming Parade will have a new route this year.
The parade begins at 1 p.m. today (Oct. 2) at the old middle school. The parade will go north on Main Street to Choctaw, then east on Choctaw to Wheeler. The parade then turns south on Wheeler to Chickasaw, then goes west on Chickasaw back to the old middle school.
The new route avoids crossing any railroad lines and was decided upon after a train interrupted the parade last year.
At the end of the parade students will return to the Sallisaw High School gymnasium for a pep rally at 2:20 p.m. Students at the new middle school will walk to the gym and be seated in the upper level. The pep rally ends at 2:50 p.m. and students return to load on their buses.
As in past years, an elementary pep rally will be held from noon until 12:30 p.m.
