Fire Danger Considered High, Outdoor Burning Should be Avoided

Dry conditions are causing the fire danger in our area to be considered very high. Although Sequoyah County is not currently under an official burn ban, outdoor burning is considered dangerous at this time and should be avoided stated Cliff Eppler with the Oklahoma Forestry Dept. McCurtain, Leflore and Choctaw counties are under a burn ban.

"Outdoor burning should be avoided the next few days if possible. The public should wait until we get significant rainfall to burn outdoors," added Eppler. The Forestry Dept. and area fire departments responded to several fires Monday.

There is a chance of rain in the local forecast beginning Friday and extending into the weekend. Officials are hoping that this will help with the fire danger.
