Journey Church and its Elder Board in Sallisaw have filed a motion for an order of attachment in an effort to recoup funds from former pastor, Jeffrey Allred.
The church filed a civil suit against Allred on Sept. 28 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw asking for more than $50,000 "for the recovery of funds that were misappropriated from the Journey Church." The civil suit notes that Allred was the pastor at the church from June 30, 2009, to Aug. 14, 2015, and had access to a credit card to purchase church supplies. Instead, the lawsuit alleges, Allred used the credit card to buy items he then sold on eBay and kept the money himself.
Allred is also under investigation by the Sallisaw Police Department, which has subpoenaed his and the church's financial records.
In the application for an order of attachment, the church, through its attorney Craig L. Cook of Fort Smith, alleges, "The defendant is about to convert his property into money for the purpose of placing it beyond the reach of his creditors..."
Evidence submitted includes the listing of Allred's home at 2610 W. Lenington Rd. in Sallisaw on an Internet real estate sales website.
In addition, the motion alleges Allred is using another website to liquidate a number of his assets and his inventory from Hope Trailer Sales LLC. The motion also points out that Allred resigned from the church through a letter dated Aug. 14, in which he stated "that he had 'done wrong,'" and shortly thereafter, on Aug. 24, he put up a For Sale by Owner sign in front of his home. The price on the home was originally listed at $419,000 and within five days had dropped to $398,000.
The motion was filed Oct. 13 in district court.
