Couple Caught with 119 Pounds of Marijuana

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) trooper confiscated 119 pounds of marijuana Oct. 7 after stopping a couple on Interstate 40 in Sequoyah County.

Arrested were Bhima-Karma V. Saragrahi, 38, a male, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Krsangi Devi Dasi Olrech, 42, a female, of Nevada City, California. Both were charged in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with trafficking in illegal drugs. Both were released on bonds of $25,000 each on Oct. 9.

The OHP trooper reported he stopped a black Honda CRV at about 8:50 a.m. on Oct. 7 for following too closely and an improper tag display. The stop was near the 316 mile marker on Interstate 40.

The trooper reported the male was driving the vehicle, which was registered as belonging to the female. The trooper said the couple was "extremely nervous," and he noticed discrepancies in their stories about the trip.

The trooper reported he was denied permission to search the vehicle, but the female did give permission for the trooper to allow his service dog to sniff around the vehicle. The dog alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics and the trooper conducted a probable cause search. He reported finding four cardboard boxes in the rear cargo of the vehicle. The boxes contained 90 vacuumed sealed bundles of green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana. The couple was then arrested and transported to the county jail.
