One Dead after Shooting

On Saturday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Dept. received a report that a shooting had occurred near the intersection of south Highway 59 and Highway 141. According to the caller a white male had been shot in the lower torso and was driven away from the scene.

The sheriff's dept. also received a call from the shooter reporting the incident. The shooter told authorities that he had shot the victim because he had barged into his home causing problems.

The shooter along with several witnesses were interviewed overnight according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart. The suspect was arrested on an unrelated warrant. Lockhart stated that the case will be turned over to the district attorney's office.

The victim was transported to a Fort Smith hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His body will be transported to the medical examiners office in Tulsa for an autopsy.

No names have been released at this time.
