Bank Provides Shade for Sallisaw Sports Complex

National Bank of Sallisaw is providing shade and foul ball protection for the spectators at the Sallisaw Sports Complex.

The project, which provides the supports and canopy shade material for the bleachers and area around the concession stand, cost about $37,000, said Matt Caldwell, bank executive vice president. The bank and Sallisaw Youth League worked on the design and the choice of the material.

Caldwell said the canopy, steel supports and cable came from Putterman Athletics of Chicago and Florida. The materials are being installed by Caldwell, bank employees Jake Thompson and Ryan Roth and volunteers. The area around the two softball quads and concession stand was complete Friday, and volunteers were to complete installing the materials Friday evening around the baseball quads.

Wind can be a problem in Oklahoma, and Caldwell said the polyester shade material is held in place by steel supports, netting and cable ties tested to 120 miles per hour. The flat installation of the shade material is also expected to help keep it in place, he said.

Caldwell said, “The youth league is excited about it.”

He said the Sallisaw Sports Complex is the best in the area and is expected to draw many, large tournaments and tournament crowds to Sallisaw.
