The Cherokee Nation will soon begin taking applications for the tribe’s Angel Project.
The program allows the public to purchase and donate clothing, toys and other gifts for Cherokee children who live within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction and who may not otherwise receive gifts during the holiday season. Applications will be accepted Oct. 18-Nov. 3.
In Sallisaw applications will be taken on Oct. 27 at the Sequoyah Building, 100 E. Choctaw Ave.
More than 1,700 children received holiday gifts through the program last year.
To qualify for the program, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Applicants must provide proof of income for all household members over the age of 18. For example, a family of three must not exceed $2,100 in household income per month, and a family of four must not exceed $2,531 per month.
Applicants must also provide proof of residency and each child’s Cherokee Nation citizenship card and clothing and shoe size. For more information, please email angel-project@cherokee.org.
