ATM Thieves Strike Again

Another local store was broken into in the early morning hours and had their ATM machine stolen.

At 4:07 a.m. the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Dept. received an alarm call to Sparks Convenience Store at the intersection of Highway 59 and State Highway 101. Deputies were on the scene within five minutes according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart. Upon arrival deputies discovered that someone had driven a vehicle through the front doors and taken the ATM machine.

The truck used during the theft was located within a mile away on Shirley Street in Sallisaw. The truck had been stolen during the night from a residence on Akins Road.

Surveillance video from the store shows at least two males wearing white masks backing into the store with the stolen vehicle and loading the ATM machine, according to Lockhart. The description of these suspects is the same as the suspects in the Pier 7 theft that occurred three weeks ago. "We also know these same suspects did the same type of crime in Adair and Cherokee counties in the last two months," stated Lockhart.

Investigators located physical evidence that was left in the vehicle that they feel will lead them to the suspect or suspects. Investigators and law enforcement were still on the scene collecting evidence Wednesday morning.
