Sallisaw police were searching for the next of kin of an older male who was struck and killed by a beer delivery truck Friday morning at the Dollar General Store parking lot at the corner of Kerr Boulevard and Cherokee in Sallisaw. Sallisaw Fire Department emergency medical responders (EMRs) were dispatched to the scene at 10:54 a.m. Friday. The EMRs were dispatched after the driver of the beer delivery truck out of Fort Smith called in to report he was making a delivery at the Dollar General Store and did not see the elderly man behind him. The man was struck and was not responding, the driver reported. The EMRs reported the man was deceased by the time they arrived. The name of the victim was not being released as of 1 p.m. Friday, as police tried to find next of kin. A state medical examiner investigated the scene, the man's body was placed in the custody of a local funeral home. Police Chief Terry Franklin said Sallisaw police are investigating the accident.
