Ellis said the investigation into the fatality uncovered the suspect, Elton Darrell Vanzant, 74, of Cookson. He said Vanzant was arrested in Cherokee County. He may have been intoxicated, and blood was taken for the investigation. The suspect is being held in the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw without bond. Jail officials said he was booked on charges of leaving the scene of a fatality accident and negligent homicide, motor vehicle. Ellis said the arrest of the suspect was a joint effort of the Vian Police, the Sequoyah County Sheriff's office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Cherokee County deputies. "The Vian Police Department appreciates the help of all those agencies. Because of them we were able to make a speedy arrest in this case," stated Ellis. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director
