Sequoyah County Reaches 19th COVID-19 Case

Cases of the coronavirus in Sequoyah County are on the rise, according to numbers released Wednesday by the Oklahoma Department of Health.

There are currently 19 positive cases in the county after spending several days hovering at 13 cases.

There are 7,480 total cases in the state, with 355 deaths from COVID-19. Three people have died of the virus in Sequoyah County.

There have been no outbreaks of the virus in nursing homes or other living facilities in the state, said Mandi Collins, the Sequoyah County Health Department’s public information officer.

Steve Rutherford, the county’s emergency management director, said Wednesday that he isn’t surprised the numbers have increased, but he also said Oklahoma is doing a lot better than neighboring Arkansas, which has more than 10,000 positive cases statewide.

According to the numbers released Wednesday by the state, Sallisaw has had 7 positive cases; Gore, 7; Muldrow, 3; and Vian 2.
