Authorities Searching for Missing 8-year-old Boy

UPDATE (9:37 a.m.): Undersheriff Greg Cox stated that the boy has been found. "We found him. He's safe, just a little wet," Cox stated.

Cox said the boy was located in the woods between Interstate 40 and Highway 64 approximately one mile west of Highway 141. Deputies spotted the boy on the edge of the woods and "after a short foot chase the child was caught."

"We are thankful it turned out that he was safe and we want to give a special thanks for the help from Emergency Management, the Sequoyah County Search and Rescue and the OHP for all their help in this search," Cox said.

Authorities are searching for a missing 8-year-old boy who ran away from his home in Gans around 10 p.m  Wednesday night, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane.

The boy has brown hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and blue shoes. No photo is available at this time. The boy also left with a blanket in his possession. Lane stated they believe he was planning to spend the night outdoors.

Lane said that the boy has ran away from home before. Approximately one month ago the boy also ran away and was located near Highway 64 and Shiloh Road in Sallisaw.

Officials are searching on horseback, on foot and by vehicle. The Sheriff's Dept. is also flying drones in an attempt to locate the boy. A helicopter provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is also assisting in the search.

Lane is asking that everyone please be on the lookout for this young boy and contact the sheriff's department if you have any information.
