Faculty, staff and students at Roland Public Schools are mourning the loss of head football coach Waymon Potts, who died unexpectedly Tuesday.
The school district had a meeting with faculty and staff Wednesday to let them know of Potts’ passing. Sources say the cause of his death is an apparent heart attack.
Potts was named head coach in May 2018 after serving as an assistant coach under former coach Jeff Streun.
The Roland football team is scheduled to play at Idabel on Friday, Nov. 8, but the district says officials have not decided whether to continue as planned. That decision is being left up to the players.
Potts and his wife, Kasi, have four children.
Roland Schools’ Superintendent Randy Martin was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
KXMX will have more details as they become available.
