No heavy equipment was damaged when a blaze broke out at the Sequoyah County District 3 county barn Thursday afternoon, a fire official said Friday.
Sallisaw Fire Department Assistant Chief Steve Padgett said Friday that the fire began in the building’s attic where a stovepipe had rusted out.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:08 p.m. Thursday, Padgett said, and they were able to extinguish the blaze within 15-20 minutes.
There were no injuries, Padgett and Sequoyah County Emergency Management Director Steve Rutherford confirmed.
District 3 Commissioner Jim Rogers was out of town at the time of the blaze and was unavailable for comment.
The county barn is just north of Taylor Drive on Maple Street (Old Highway 17).
