The Sallisaw Animal Care Facility will sponsor a Spring Rabies Clinic next week.
Slated from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, the clinic will be held at the Sallisaw Fire Station, 110 E. Walnut St.
Rabies vaccinations will be offered for $7 each, with the 5-in-1 offered at $13 each. A rabies vaccine and the 5-in-1 will be $20. The 5-in-1 vaccine includes canine distemper, adenovirus, two types of parainfluenza and parvovirus.
Sallisaw Animal Control Officer Randy Freeman encourages pet owners to protect their pets from rabies during the spring and summer by getting them vaccinated.
“In 2013, we did have a rabies outbreak in a feral cat colony and by order of the state health department, 18 cats were destroyed,” Freeman said. “Sequoyah County has not had any cases reported recently. Let's keep it that way.”
Microchipping is also offered for $15 per pet, according to Freeman.
The clinic is hosted by the Sallisaw Veterinary Clinic.
Pet owners are reminded that all dogs must be on a leash; all cats must be in pet carriers.
For information, call the facility at 918-775-4126.
